The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has posted training videos to help food companies use the FDA’s Food Defense Plan Builder, a tool that seeks to bolster the industry’s defense measures against an act of intentional food adulteration.
The Food Defense Plan Builder is a comprehensive, easy-to-use software program designed to help owners and operators of food facilities—ranging from primary production and manufacturing to retail and transportation—develop customized plans to minimize the risk of intentional adulteration at their individual food facilities.
The short training videos guide users through the software program. The user answers a series of questions about the food facility and the food manufactured, processed, packed or held there in order to develop a comprehensive food defense plan, including a vulnerability assessment, broad and focused mitigation strategies, and an action plan.
The videos and software program are available free of charge at the FDA’s Food Defense Plan Builder Web page.
